Describing my character: The main character in Island of the Blue Dolphins is a girl named Karana who is a first nations person. Karana has long black wavy hair, 12 years old and very adventurous. She has a brother named Ramo who is 6 years old and an older sister.
Comparing characters: I have read Holes, A dog's Purpose and James and the giant peach from the tournament of books so far. I will compare my character with A dog's Purpose. The character in A dog's purpose is a dog who comes back to life again and again to fulfill it's purpose. Karana is different then the dog because the dog is not human like Karana. They do have something similar which is that they are both adventurous, as they go on adventures like Karana is left on the island to survive and the dog comes back again and again to fulfill it's purpose. Comparing my thoughts from the beginning till now: At the beginning of the tournament I felt nervous but then I won but felt sad for breanna because she lost and then against Fantastic beasts and where to find them I didn't feel as nervous and I lost but I had my win and my lost. what success have you had? I have won against Breanna who's book was wings of fire, legends of dark stalker. I am against Fantastic beasts and where to find them. How has your attitude changed during the tournament? On my bracket I did a lot of random choosing but after hearing the debates I changed my mind and now I don't go vote by what I vote for on my bracket. How does debating/presenting help us in our academic and personal lives? Debating has helped me with my personal live because sometimes you just might not get what you want and so you may not win. It helps me to know that you don't win at everything and that is okay you still tried your best. We have had a tie between Peacock feathers and Counting by 7's! Can you believe it? What will we do to solve this problem? One suggestion was: we can have elite nine instead of elite eight. So you have who ever wins between A mango shaped space and Hatchet will go against Peacock feathers and counting by sevens. How would I handle a competitive situation where I had to oppose a friend: I would Handle this situation by just trying my best and congratulating them if they won I would say You did great and you deserved winning and not worrying about not winning and if I won I would say Great job! I would also not say any mean words to lose/break our friendship. This situation has happened between Blubber and Wildwood but they are still friends. Detail some reasons for the success of one book over another in this tournament: Some of the reasons the book won against another is their presentation wasn't very convincing or the book was popular and had a popular author. For example I was against Fantastic beasts and where to find them. Fantastic beasts and where to find them won because the author was J. K. Rowling who wrote the Harry potter series so she is very popular. another example is Wildwood vs. blubber. Wildwood won because she had a better presentation and was very excited and convincing. I have a interesting question: How many friendships are going to be broken?
